Tottenham faces another major loss before the North London derby against Arsenal, with Pape Matar Sarr sustaining an injury during his time with Senegal's national squad.
Coach Thomas Frank has never had his best lineup since taking charge of Tottenham. Just as he received good news about captain and central defender Cristian Romero possibly returning for the North London derby against Arsenal Frank encountered another problem. Specifically, versatile midfielder Pape Matar Sarr had to leave the field while playing for Senegal in the match against Brazil.
Sarr exited at the start of the second half in the friendly match at Emirates Stadium, leaving the field under the supervision of Senegal's medical team. The exact nature of Sarr’s injury is still unclear, but initial reports suggest the Tottenham star may need to rest for the next two weeks. This is bad news for Tottenham, especially since Lucas Bergvall had to withdraw from the Sweden squad earlier due to a concussion sustained in the loss to Chelsea in early November.
Archie Gray, Ben Davies, and Dominic Solanke are among the players hoping to return to action for Tottenham soon, while Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin are gradually recovering from knee injuries, but James Maddison remains sidelined for an extended period.
Arsenal also has concerns over Gabriel Magalhaes’ injury after he had to limp off during the Brazil vs. Senegal friendly. The Gunner left the field in the 64th minute at Emirates Stadium, apparently suffering a thigh injury. Additionally, Mikel Arteta is facing another defensive injury worry as Riccardo Calafiori withdrew from the Italy squad due to a hip problem.
Regarding his player's health, Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso said: "He gave his best, and we thank Calafiori for his professionalism, passion, and dedication, which means a lot to the team. But today, he encountered an issue and will return to Arsenal for further examination. Of course, we hope it’s nothing serious.”
Arsenal currently leads the Premier League table by 4 points over Man City. Their winning streak was recently halted after a 2-2 draw at newly promoted Sunderland. Now, Arsenal will aim for 3 points in the upcoming clash with Tottenham.
