Ignored by Vietnam U22, European overseas Vietnamese keep scoring goals

Overseas Vietnamese player Andrej An Khánh is performing remarkably well in the Czech third-tier league even though he was not selected for Vietnam U22.

Vietnamese overseas midfielder Andrej Nguyễn An Khánh continues to demonstrate consistent performance at his club by scoring a crucial goal in the Czech third division. Coming on in the second half of the match between Trinec and Hodonin, An Khánh scored the decisive goal that secured a 2-0 victory for his team.

This latest goal brings the total to 5 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions for the 2005-born overseas Vietnamese player this season with Trinec. Considering his midfield position, this goal tally is quite impressive and highlights Andrej An Khánh's excellent form.

In March this year, Andrej An Khánh was called up to the Vietnam U22 squad to participate in the CFA Team China 2025 friendly tournament. Under the leadership of coach Đinh Hồng Vinh, the U22 Vietnam team performed impressively, remaining unbeaten and finishing second behind the host nation China.

However, the player himself was unable to make much impact.The 2005-born midfielder was only registered and sat on the bench for the first two matches against U22 South Korea and U22 Uzbekistan, then was completely absent from the last game. Moreover, in a previous friendly against Quảng Ninh, An Khánh was substituted off after just 15 minutes on the pitch.

His underwhelming performances led to An Khánh missing recent Vietnam U22 training camps. Recently, in the list of 26 Vietnam U22 players attending the Panda Cup 2025 friendly tournament in November and preparing for the 33rd SEA Games in December, Andrej Nguyễn An Khánh’s name was not included.

Andrej Nguyễn An Khánh was born in 2005 in Trinec, Czech Republic, to a family with a father from Nghệ An and a mother from Hanoi. He was first called up by coach Troussier to the Vietnam U23 team in 2023, preparing for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, An Khánh can also play flexibly as an attacking midfielder or winger. His ability to maintain goal-scoring form at his club is a positive sign, offering hope for a future return to the national team levels.
