This weekend’s round delivers a series of highly exciting matches after the first two quarterfinalists, Bắc Ninh and SHB Đà Nẵng, were confirmed. Spectators at Lạch Tray, Hàng Đẫy, and Thống Nhất stadiums will witness uncompromising contests, and some title contenders will inevitably exit early.
The spotlight on Saturday (22/11) will be the game at Bình Phước stadium, where Đồng Nai hosts Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh. Coach Nguyễn Việt Thắng’s team leads the First Division but has not featured Công Phượng since the start of the season. It is very likely that the former HAGL forward will return in this match, providing him an opportunity to reaffirm his influence after a long quiet spell.
Hồng Lĩnh Hà Tĩnh is naturally rated higher due to their balanced squad and V-League experience. However, Trọng Hoàng and his teammates must be very cautious against the best-performing First Division team. Neither side aims too far in the National Cup, but this match’s result will reflect their ambition and seriousness in this competitive rotational tournament.
One of the most anticipated fixtures of this round will take place on Sunday (23/11) at Lạch Tray stadium. Hải Phòng will meet Ninh Bình, a team holding an unbeaten Asian record of 35 matches. Coach Chu Đình Nghiêm’s squad currently stands third in the LPBank V-League 2025/26 with 20 points, 7 points behind leaders Ninh Bình, and they drew 2-2 with this opponent in the first leg.
In the National Cup, where draws are not allowed, the team with greater composure will advance. Hải Phòng has the home advantage and consistent form, with the deadly trio Friday – Tagueu – Antonio contributing 15 goals. The visitors are equally strong, with Gustavo – Daniel – Hoàng Đức combining for 14 goals.
This will be a match where both teams’ attacks can make a significant impact, and it is very likely to be a "goal feast" at Lạch Tray.

At Thống Nhất stadium, the city derby between Công an TP.HCM and CLB TP.HCM will certainly be the main attraction for local fans. Coach Lê Huỳnh Đức’s team is generally rated higher, with many stars and superior squad depth. However, their form is not very good, especially Tiến Linh, who has not scored for over a month.
Meanwhile, CLB TP.HCM, coached by Nguyễn Minh Phương, is declining in the First Division and recently lost the chance to compete for the top spot. However, in a derby, differences sometimes become meaningless. This is an opportunity for TP.HCM to boost morale, while Công an TP.HCM needs a win to assert their contender status domestically.
The most tense match of the Round of 16 is surely the clash between Công an Hà Nội and Thể Công Viettel at Hàng Đẫy. Quang Hải and his teammates remain unbeaten domestically this season, while Thể Công Viettel has been inconsistent. However, in the Cup, coach Velizar Popov is always an unpredictable factor, having led Thanh Hóa to back-to-back National Cup titles in 2023 and 2023/24.
The reigning champions Công an Hà Nội have the league’s top striker duo Alan – Artur, a very tough challenge for Thể Công Viettel’s defense. But it is remembered that two seasons ago, Thể Công Viettel eliminated Công an Hà Nội early. Therefore, this match could have unpredictable developments and will be an important gauge of both teams’ championship ambitions.
In the other match, Nam Định has the chance to regain the confidence of the reigning V-League champions when facing Long An. The First Division club cannot compare in achievements and expertise with the Thiên Trường hosts. Thus, new coach Mauro Jeronimo has the opportunity to debut with a win.
