The 5-3 win against Brunei was essential but appears insufficient for U16 Vietnam to compete for a place in the final of the 2025 U16 Southeast Asia Championship.
At noon on December 27, the team U16 Vietnam futsal team entered their final group stage match at the 2025 U16 Southeast Asia futsal tournament against U16 Brunei. Facing a weaker opponent, the Vietnamese side quickly dominated the game and led 4-1 before the first half ended.
However, in the second half, the Vietnamese players unexpectedly conceded 2 more goals before scoring the final goal to secure a 5-3 overall victory. This result placed U16 Vietnam third in the standings with 7 points and a +1 goal difference, level on points with Indonesia but having played one more match.
Although the chances are slim, theoretically, U16 Vietnam still has a path to the final. Specifically, in the match at 13:30 the same day, if Indonesia suffers a heavy defeat by more than 7 goals to Thailand, Vietnam will move up to second place in the group. Otherwise, U16 Vietnam will face U16 Myanmar in the third-place playoff.
In the 2025 U16 Southeast Asia futsal tournament, the U16 Vietnam team drew with Indonesia in their opening match, then won two matches against Myanmar and Brunei. The team only lost once to the host U16 Thailand in the match on December 26.
Although the results have not been ideal, with serious preparation and clear direction, the U16 Vietnam futsal team aims to gain international match experience while demonstrating the strength of Vietnam’s youth futsal on the regional stage.
