Manchester United's rising star is considering a permanent transfer! Amroli's promises are meaningless; unless there's a managerial change, he is unlikely to escape the bench.

The British Daily Mirror reports that 20-year-old Manchester United midfielder Cody Meno is now seriously considering a permanent transfer as he feels let down by his role under Ruben Amroli and doubts any positive change will come. If changes do occur, they are likely to be unfavorable for him.

During the summer transfer window, Meno briefly thought about leaving, but at that time, he was only considering a loan to secure more minutes on the pitch. He may have also hoped that coach Amroli would be dismissed due to poor results, but now, with the team's performance improving, owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has publicly committed to keeping Amroli for three years.

If Amroli remains in charge, Meno’s role at Manchester United will be as a substitute, currently behind Bruno Fernandes and potentially behind new midfield recruits such as Elliot Anderson and Adam Walton in the future. The 40-year-old Portuguese coach does not favor Meno’s style, as the player prefers a controlling role and is less inclined to run extensively.

Although Amroli has declared Meno to be "the future of Manchester United," it is difficult to see where he fits in the 3-4-3 formation. His technical skills and passing/shooting ability are insufficient for the number 10 role, and he does not meet Amroli’s running demands for the 6 or 8 positions.

Luck has also not favored Meno, as with Casemiro suspended and Bruno Fernandes injured, he had chances to start in the last two matches. However, he himself suffered a calf injury, causing him to miss those games.

With only a few days left before the January winter transfer window opens, reports say Meno is once again considering leaving, but this time not on loan. Sources close to the player reveal that he may now be seeking a permanent transfer, with several European clubs showing interest.

Napoli in Serie A could be a leading candidate. Former Manchester United teammates Scott McTominay and Rasmus Højlund have revitalized their careers in Italy, and Meno feels he could be the next to follow.

In Napoli’s final match of 2025, Højlund scored twice to help the team beat Cremonese 2-0. His Serie A stats now stand at 6 goals in 12 games, matching his goal tally at Manchester United last season. Across all competitions, he has scored 9 goals in 19 matches, surpassing his 8 goals in 40 games under Amroli. Like "Big East," the "Freighter" has turned into a battleship.

It is said that Meno had always maintained a firm stance: he wanted to prove himself at Old Trafford but would seek a loan if unsuccessful and decide on a permanent future next year. Now, according to iPaper, Meno is beginning to consider permanently leaving the club he has supported since childhood.

Meno is frustrated by the pain of sitting on the bench for long periods, and even if Manchester United buys two expensive midfielders next year and returns to European competition, he would only be a rotational player. In Amroli’s 3-4-3 system, there are only two midfield spots, leaving no place for a midfielder like Meno who is neither here nor there. Even if the formation changes to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, Meno would need to increase his work rate.

Meno’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2027, with a one-year extension option. He currently earns £50,000 per week but is demanding a raise to £200,000, causing a significant gap between the parties. Renewal talks have been stalled for some time. If nothing changes, the next 18 months will be the best opportunity for Manchester United to sell this academy graduate.

Many worry that if Meno leaves, he will become a superstar, making Manchester United look foolish. But remembering the stories of Martial and Rashford shows that not every player turns out to be a Salah or De Bruyne.
