Coach Ruben Amorim has officially been relieved of his duties by Man Utd following poor results over his 14 months in charge.
Man Utd have sacked coach Ruben Amorim after controversial remarks targeting the club’s management. The Portuguese strategist openly criticized the leadership at Old Trafford after a 1-1 draw against Leeds United. He left Old Trafford after 14 turbulent months both on and off the pitch.
During his tenure, Amorim secured only 24 wins out of 63 matches, a winning percentage of 38.71%. This is a very poor record, even worse than Frank O’Farrell, who was dismissed in 1971 after winning 30 of 81 games with a 37.04% win rate.
Amorim put himself in a precarious position with shocking comments during the post-match press conference. He expressed dissatisfaction at being called “head coach” and demanded to be addressed as “first team head coach.” Additionally, the 1985-born manager hinted criticism at sporting director Jason Wilcox after the failed attempt to sign winger Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.
Although he previously asserted he would not resign, Amorim sought more control amid the club’s transfer market struggles. However, Man Utd’s board did not wait and decided to terminate the contract with the former Sporting Lisbon coach.
Last season, Amorim lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final and only led Man Utd to finish 15th in the Premier League. He also failed to fully resolve defensive issues, despite some improvement in results this season.
Brenden Aaronson’s goal at Elland Road extended Man Utd’s streak to 15 consecutive away games without a clean sheet, the worst record in the club’s history. Since Amorim took charge, the "Red Devils" have managed only one winning streak—three wins during a five-game unbeaten run in October.
