Two Premier League giants adopt different approaches for new managers: Chelsea promotes internally while Manchester United plans to appoint a permanent head coach in the summer.

The affluent Premier League is chaotic, with two big six clubs dismissing their managers in the first week of 2026: Maresca at Chelsea on New Year's Day and Amolin on January 5th. After Chelsea and Manchester United parted ways with their managers, both top clubs had to decide on replacements. The Blues chose to promote a coach from their satellite club, while the Red Devils opted to appoint an interim manager to finish the season and will decide on a permanent coach this summer.

According to Italian transfer expert Romano’s latest report, 41-year-old Rossenier, head coach of Strasbourg in Ligue 1, will take over Chelsea, replacing Maresca! Rossenier manages Chelsea’s satellite club Strasbourg in France and previously worked with Rooney at Derby County in the Championship, making him somewhat of a protégé. Rossenier’s experience in the top five leagues is limited to just half a season without any notable achievements. Chelsea’s choice to promote from their satellite club is quite risky, as the Premier League is the toughest among the top five leagues. Whether Rossenier can succeed depends on Chelsea’s results this season.

Italian transfer expert Romano also reports that Manchester United legend Solskjaer is interested in returning as interim manager. He is eager to come back regardless of the contract length and is willing even to sign a six-month deal.

It is reported that Manchester United will assess all interim managers within the next few hours or days, deciding to appoint a permanent coach this summer. Meanwhile, another club legend, Fletcher, will temporarily lead training and matches this week.
