Former midfielder Tim Sherwood recently shocked MU fans and Benjamin Sesko himself by stating that the Slovenian newcomer is not yet skilled enough to play for Manchester United, despite scoring two goals in the 2-2 draw against Burnley.
Just two days before the away match at Turf Moor, MU found themselves without a head coach after Ruben Amorim was dismissed, with Darren Fletcher stepping in as interim manager. Fletcher had a rough start as MU conceded first against newly promoted Burnley. However, Benjamin Sesko shone with a brilliant brace to put MU ahead 2-1, but a stunning goal in the 66th minute from Jaidon Anthony allowed Burnley to secure a point.
This marked MU's third consecutive draw in the Premier League. Former Tottenham and Aston Villa coach Tim Sherwood gave harsh criticism of Sesko, saying the 22-year-old has not shown much improvement since joining MU: “I think the positive is that Sesko scored, hopefully that will boost his confidence. He’s been through a tough period and I said he should have been taken off in the first half and never allowed to wear the MU shirt again. I stand by that even after he scored twice in the second half. To me, he still isn’t good enough to play for MU.”
According to Sherwood, MU completely lost control of the game once Bruno Fernandes was substituted: “When Bruno Fernandes left the pitch, I think they lost control. We all know he has great ball control, timely passing, and I think they lacked that finesse. They are severely lacking quality, which is the current state of MU. They urgently need reinforcements in this area.”
Regarding Sesko, despite his impressive individual performance, he remained calm and humble. Speaking to Sky Sports after the unfortunate draw, Sesko said he did not celebrate excessively but focused on his responsibility: “It’s simply my job. A striker has to score goals. We need to use that as a foundation to keep moving forward. Taking chances is always crucial and we have to maintain this effort. It was a tough match, and I think the whole team fought hard and gave their best. Everyone tried to score, but unfortunately, we conceded the second goal. We need to regroup, learn from mistakes, and avoid them in the future.”
