Facing the risk of suspension by FIFA, the Malaysian Football Association (FAM) is considering a collective resignation scenario

Due to the potential suspension by FIFA, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is contemplating the EXCO's collective resignation as a crucial measure to protect the country's football future.

Acting President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi, confirmed that the FAM Executive Committee (EXCO) is prepared to resign collectively if it is the best solution to protect Malaysian football’s future and avoid FIFA suspension.

This information was shared by Mr. Yusoff Mahadi following a meeting with the FAM EXCO members held in Petaling Jaya (Kuala Lumpur) on the afternoon of January 8. According to FAM leadership, this is one of the seriously considered scenarios amid the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) stating that FIFA is closely monitoring developments related to FAM.

“We convened the EXCO members present to discuss FAM’s upcoming direction after the AFC announcement. All opinions were heard with the highest goal of protecting national football,” said Mr. Yusoff.

The acting FAM president emphasized that the leadership is reviewing two to three different options to minimize risks and ensure FAM does not fall into a FIFA suspension situation. Among these, the EXCO’s collective resignation is an option currently on the table.

“We are considering all possibilities. The most important thing is to determine what must be done to ensure FAM is not suspended by FIFA. At this stage, it is only a discussion phase; no final decision has been made yet,” Mr. Yusoff stated.

Currently, FAM is awaiting a final ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)

Importantly, FAM’s leadership affirmed that the executive committee does not intend to wait for the CAS verdict and will soon make a decision to resolve the matter decisively.

“If resignation is the best choice, we are ready to decide on it with consensus, as the FAM EXCO is united and prioritizes Malaysian football’s interests,” asserted Mr. Yusoff Mahadi.

At present, no EXCO member has officially submitted a resignation letter. FAM plans to hold additional meetings soon before making a final decision, amid increasing pressure from the AFC and FIFA.
