Siam Sport confirms that the Thailand national team is prepared to regain the AFF Cup championship in the upcoming 2026 competition.
On January 15, The group draw ceremony for the 2026 ASEAN Football Championship (also known as the AFF Cup) will officially take place in Indonesia. Ahead of the event, Thailand’s Siam Sport confidently believes the national team will restore their form and win the title again:
"The organizers of the ASEAN Football Championship have officially announced their readiness for the 2026 ASEAN Champions Cup Hyundai, confirming the group stage draw will be held on January 15 at the RTCI studio in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This tournament is regarded as the biggest national football competition in Southeast Asia and marks a special 30th anniversary celebration. Ten ASEAN national teams will participate, with the event scheduled from July 24 to August 26, 2026," wrote Siam Sport.
"Meanwhile, the Thailand national team, led by English coach Anthony Hudson, awaits the group stage draw outcome to map their route to the championship, aiming primarily to reclaim the ASEAN title."Siam Sport emphasized.
Thailand’s leading sports newspaper also highlighted the team’s impressive record in this tournament: "In the 15 editions held so far, Thailand is the most successful nation, having won the championship 7 times: in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2020, and 2022. Singapore has won 4 times, Vietnam 3 times, and Malaysia once."
Not only Thailand, recently Indonesian media also claimed that the 2026 AFF Cup will be the perfect moment for their team to claim the championship.
Vietnam is the current AFF Cup champion after defeating Thailand in the 2024 finals.
