New Chelsea Head Coach: "I Have Come Here to Win"

In a pre-match interview ahead of the FA Cup 2025/26 third round game against Charlton, Chelsea’s new head coach, Liam Rosenior, made bold statements about his ambitions upon joining the club.

Chelsea officially begins a new chapter by appointing Liam Rosenior as head coach, replacing Enzo Maresca who recently departed. Rosenior signed a contract with Chelsea until 2032, reflecting the management’s long-term confidence. Before arriving at the Premier League, he made a strong impression at Strasbourg by leading the youngest squad among Europe’s top leagues to qualify for the Conference League.

The new Chelsea boss was present in the stands at Craven Cottage to watch the match against Fulham on Wednesday evening, before officially taking over the team from Thursday with his first training session. On Friday, Rosenior held his introductory press conference at the Cobham training center, openly discussing expectations and pressures at a big club like Chelsea.

In the pre-match interview before the FA Cup 2025/26 third round clash with Charlton, Rosenior confidently declared:

“I will offer no excuses. I am here because Chelsea is expected to win every match they participate in, and that expectation is entirely reasonable. As you have seen, not only in this competition but also in other European tournaments, if you fail to do so, you will face difficulties.”

Not shying away from responsibility, Rosenior emphasized that Chelsea is a club born to win trophies. His confidence in the current squad is absolute:

“The potential of this club, as well as this team, is limitless. And I will not set any boundaries for it.

I never restrict the ambitions of my squad. We have world-class players, some who have won the World Cup, and this team only a few months ago lifted the Club World Cup trophy. I watched that match and they were truly outstanding against PSG.”

Despite Chelsea competing on multiple fronts, Rosenior maintains a philosophy of focusing on one match at a time, considering it the foundation for building consistent form:

“We have many important games ahead, but I have told the players to focus solely on winning the next match. Always the next match. That is how you build a string of good performances.

With the talents we have, the professionalism of the entire team, the intensity of training over the past two days, and the players’ enthusiasm for new ideas, there are many extremely positive signs emerging.”

Not only setting ambitions for the team, Rosenior also openly expressed his confidence in his own abilities after years of experience in various roles:

“You cannot limit ambition.I am not arrogant, but I believe I am skilled in my work. In every role I have held, whether interim coach, assistant, head coach, or permanent manager, considering the teams I worked with, I have achieved success. For me, I have always wanted to work at a big club like this. But it’s not just about being here, it’s about succeeding here.”

Besides ambition, Rosenior’s football philosophy is also eagerly anticipated by Chelsea fans. At Strasbourg, he built a playing style focused on controlling the ball from the back, but Rosenior affirmed he will be flexible to suit the current squad.
