Numerous footballers fail to accurately assess their own talent. Valued at just 3.5 million euros yet asking for a 4 million euro annual wage, the Turkish Super League is not the one being taken advantage of.
According to the latest report from Turkish media Sabah Spor, Turkish Super League contender Besiktas plans to sign the 28-year-old Turkish midfielder Öztunç from Bundesliga giant Borussia Dortmund during the winter transfer window. They have offered a three-and-a-half-year contract with a 2.5 million euro annual salary, but Öztunç demands a much higher wage of 4 million euros per year along with a signing bonus.
Öztunç is currently 28 years old, stands 1.83 meters tall, and is a right-footed midfielder. His contract with Dortmund runs until the end of this season, and his market value is only 3.5 million euros according to Transfermarkt. Although in his prime, he has barely played for Dortmund, appearing just three times in the Bundesliga this season, all as a substitute, totaling 20 minutes on the pitch, and four times in all competitions with a total of 21 minutes. It’s fair to say Öztunç is a fringe player at Dortmund. For a top Turkish club like Besiktas to want him is already generous, yet he still views himself highly, demanding a 4 million euro salary despite being a relatively unknown player valued at 3.5 million euros. Players like Öztunç struggle to find their true level, with ambitions far beyond their actual standing.
