Manchester United made little movement in the winter transfer window, having only sold 21-year-old academy winger Sam Mather so far. Another confirmed departure is 22-year-old English midfielder Toby Collyer, who has agreed to a loan move to Championship side Hull City.

Hull City manager Sergei Jakirovich has already confirmed the deal, telling Sky Sports UK last weekend: “We have received permission from Manchester United; he will arrive on Monday. We have finalized everything with United, he will undergo a medical this weekend and is ready to join our training.”
It is reported that Collyer has passed his medical. He was injured during his loan spell at Championship club West Bromwich Albion in the first half of the season. Since he had limited opportunities even when fit, Manchester United terminated his loan with West Brom upon his return for treatment. Now fully recovered, Collyer aims to achieve better progress at the “Tiger City.”
The Manchester Evening News states that Collyer’s transfer has not been officially announced because some details still need to be finalized. British media revealed that this loan will involve no fee. Hull City currently sit fourth in the Championship, just three points behind Ipswich in the automatic promotion spots, giving Collyer a chance to contribute to their promotion push.
According to “Jingji Net,” Manchester United also received a loan offer this week from Ajax for Uruguayan midfielder Ugart. Since caretaker coach Carrick took over, Casemiro and Cody Menoe have resumed their partnership in midfield, pushing Ugart back to the bench. However, the Red Devils have no intention of letting Ugart leave mid-season and have therefore rejected Ajax’s loan proposal.

Ugart joined Manchester United in 2024 for a fee of €60 million but has failed to secure a starting spot under Ten Hag, Amorin, or Carrick. Even Amorin, who previously worked with him at Sporting Lisbon, did not give him many chances, indicating Ugart’s underwhelming performances. The Red Devils are currently uncertain about bringing in new signings this winter and thus are not considering any first-team departures. The situation may change in the summer, when players like Ugart and Casemiro could leave Old Trafford. Ugart himself is reportedly open to a move.
Another scenario in which Manchester United might let Ugart go is if the club signs a new midfielder in a last-minute deal in January. But that would likely happen only after their Premier League away match at Arsenal this Sunday. United’s next game is at home against Fulham on February 1st, giving them a week to manage winter window affairs.
According to British media, Manchester United’s main focus is also loaning out several academy players. 20-year-old central defender Tyler Fredricson might be loaned to a Championship club or possibly a top European league team. Fredricson has made four first-team appearances but struggles for chances now that the team no longer plays three at the back.
Forward Ethan Wheatley is currently negotiating a loan move with Bradford City, who sit third in League One. The 20-year-old striker played 25 times for Northampton in League One during the first half of the season, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. However, Northampton are struggling in the relegation zone, so United recalled him hoping he can join a stronger team.

Manchester United has not yet decided the future of 18-year-old English left-back Harry Armas, who was loaned to bottom-of-the-table Championship side Sheffield Wednesday for half a season and performed impressively. Armas will definitely be loaned out again, but his next destination is yet to be determined.
