Manchester City players have chosen to reimburse supporters who endured freezing conditions to support the team, just to see a forgettable display versus Bodo/Glimt.
Nearly 400 Man City fans traveled to the Arctic Circle to watch their team's shocking 1-3 defeat against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League. Following this poor showing, Man City's captain group including Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland agreed to refund the tickets for fans who witnessed this loss in person.
“Our fans mean the world to us,”the quartet jointly declared. “We recognize the sacrifices our supporters make by traveling with the team everywhere, home and away, and we never take that for granted. They are the best fans in the world.”.
“We are also fully aware of the long journey and freezing weather conditions our fans endured on a tough night for us on the pitch. Refunding the ticket cost to the fans who traveled to Bodo is the least we can do,” Rodri and his teammates stated.
It is estimated this gesture will cost nearly £10,000. The refund decision came after Haaland, who has failed to score in 7 of his last 8 games for Man City, publicly apologized on live television for his embarrassing performance.
“Once again, I take full responsibility for not scoring the goals I should have. I apologize to everyone, all Man City fans, and everyone who traveled with the team today. Ultimately, it’s shameful. Bodo played fantastic football and deserved the win. I honestly don’t know what to say because I have no answers,” Haaland said on TNT Sports..
It was a night to forget for Man City, but for Bodo/Glimt and Norwegian football fans, it was historic. This 3-1 victory marked Bodo/Glimt’s first-ever win in the Champions League this season, and the achievement is even more special as the victim was Man City.
According to European football expert Lars Sivertsen, this could be the second biggest win in Norwegian football history. He said the greatest victory remains Rosenborg’s 2-1 win over AC Milan at San Siro in the 1996 Champions League to qualify for the knockout stage.
