Greenwood brings good news to MU upon his Premier League return

Man Utd included a special clause in the sale of Mason Greenwood to Marseille, while the 24-year-old forward is performing notably well in France.

After the Crown Prosecution Service in England dropped the assault charges against his girlfriend which Mason Greenwood has consistently denied, Man Utd and the academy graduate mutually agreed that the best option was for him to continue his career away from Old Trafford.

This decision came following an extensive internal review by the club. The "Red Devils" stated both parties agreed that Greenwood restarting his career in a different environment would be better for his future.

Greenwood then joined Getafe on loan, scoring 10 goals in his first season back in professional football. After this period, he signed a long-term deal with Marseille in 2024 for a fee of £26.6 million.

On the pitch, the 24-year-old striker is in excellent form. The 2001-born star has netted 42 goals in 62 appearances for Marseille, including 20 goals in just 26 matches this season across all competitions.

Man Utd have no plans to bring Greenwood back and consider a reunion inappropriate. Nonetheless, Old Trafford could benefit financially in the future. When Greenwood signed a five-year contract with Marseille, Man Utd included a clause entitling them to 40% of any future transfer fee if the player is sold again. This means that if Greenwood leaves Marseille, Man Utd will receive nearly half of the transfer amount.

In October, multiple sources reported that Barcelona is leading the race to sign Greenwood, a player they have been monitoring for some time. A report from TEAMtalk also revealed the possibility of his return to the Premier League, with Tottenham and West Ham both showing interest. Additionally, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Saudi Pro League clubs like Al Hilal and Al Nassr are said to be closely watching the situation.

The striker has switched allegiance to the Jamaica national team but has yet to make an appearance. At Marseille, he is also playing alongside Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal, who joined the team on loan under coach Roberto De Zerbi.
