Lewandowski sets a record matching Ronaldo in the Champions League

Robert Lewandowski keeps making Champions League history as he hits 20 goals for Barcelona, becoming part of a rare group that includes Ronaldo, Kane, and Neymar in the top European tournament.

Robert Lewandowski further proves his status as one of Europe's top scorers by making a historic mark in the Champions League, joining the “special club” with Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, and Neymar. The Polish striker scored in Barcelona's hard-fought 4-2 victory over Slavia Prague, reaching 20 goals in the Champions League for the Catalan club.

Notably, Lewandowski is among the very few players to have scored 20 or more Champions League goals for two different clubs. Before joining Barca in 2022, the 1988-born striker had scored 69 goals in Europe’s premier competition wearing Bayern Munich's jersey. Last season, he also reached double digits for Barca in the Champions League, demonstrating remarkable consistency even at age 37.

Lewandowski’s achievement ranks just behind some of the greatest names in the competition’s history. Cristiano Ronaldo was the first to do this by scoring for both Manchester United and Real Madrid. Harry Kane followed with goals for Tottenham and Bayern Munich, while Neymar reached this milestone playing for Barcelona and PSG. Now, Lewandowski officially stands alongside them.

Moreover, his goal against Slavia Prague extended Lewandowski’s record of scoring in 15 consecutive Champions League seasons. Only Ronaldo (16 seasons), Lionel Messi, and Karim Benzema (18 seasons) have longer streaks. In total, Lewandowski has 114 goals in European cups, ranking third all-time behind Messi (132) and Ronaldo (145).

Despite his impressive form, Lewandowski’s future at Camp Nou remains uncertain. His contract is approaching expiration amid rumors of a possible move to MLS. Coach Hansi Flick acknowledged Barcelona’s satisfaction with Lewandowski but stated that any decisions will be made after the season ends.

As for Lewandowski himself, he remains cautious: “I haven’t thought much about the future yet. Everything depends on the club’s plans and my own wishes.” Meanwhile, Barcelona is reportedly willing to extend the veteran striker’s contract by one more year, as they have yet to find a suitable replacement for the center-forward position.
