Serie A's second-to-last team has thrown in the towel, selling their key striker for 20 million euros to a title-contending club, effectively accepting relegation.

Serie A is genuinely short on funds now, with most transfers involving failed Premier League players and experienced veterans. The league’s worsening European results have caused financial strain and a drop in team quality. While relegation candidates in other leagues reinforce their squads hoping to survive—particularly in the Premier League, where staying up means over 100 million pounds per year—Serie A’s second-last team has simply given up. Verona, sitting bottom after 21 rounds with 2 wins, 8 draws, and 11 losses totaling 14 points, sold their main striker to a title-chasing Serie A club, signaling their acceptance of relegation to Serie B.

According to the latest update from Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Napoli has signed Verona’s 22-year-old Brazilian forward Giovanni Santana for a total transfer fee of 20 million euros, including variable clauses, with all paperwork finalized this Friday.

Giovanni, aged 22, stands 1.84 meters tall, is left-footed, and can play multiple attacking positions. Valued at 12 million euros on Transfermarkt, he is Verona’s main striker. This season, he has appeared in all 21 Serie A matches, starting 19 times, accumulating 1541 minutes on the pitch, and contributing 3 goals and 4 assists.
