What Could Help Jadon Sancho Stay at Old Trafford

As Jadon Sancho continues to struggle in his journey to regain form, Michael Carrick's past statements have unexpectedly become one of the few supports for the English star at Manchester United.

Currently, Jadon Sancho is playing for Aston Villa on loan from Man United. Although Unai Emery’s team is impressing and sitting among the Premier League leaders, Sancho’s contribution has been quite limited. In 28 appearances across all competitions, the winger born in 2000 has only started 7 matches, without scoring or assisting. These figures clearly reflect Sancho’s difficulties in establishing himself, even without the direct pressure from Old Trafford.

In this context, Michael Carrick unexpectedly returned to Old Trafford as interim coach following Ruben Amorim’s departure from the club. Although just a short-term solution, Carrick is expected to offer a fresh perspective to the team, especially for players who were previously undervalued or no longer part of long-term plans.

Notably, Carrick had a very positive working relationship with Sancho during his interim tenure in 2021. However, time waits for no one. Sancho’s contract with Man United will expire next summer, and the Red Devils’ management is reportedly ready to let him go on a free transfer to reduce the wage bill. Still, Carrick’s presence might mark a turning point. If not a dramatic comeback at Old Trafford, at least Carrick could help Sancho restore his image, thereby increasing his value and opening new doors in his career. For Sancho, this might be the last chance to change his fate at Man United.
