The Opta supercomputer has offered its analysis and predictions regarding the showdown between Arsenal and Manchester United in the 23rd round of the Premier League.
The spotlight of the 23rd Premier League round will be on the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal will host their fierce rivals Manchester United. Although the "Red Devils" recently made headlines with a victory over Manchester City, this result is still insufficient to rate Michael Carrick’s squad on par with the home team Arsenal.
This assessment aligns with the forecast from the supercomputer Opta. After 10,000 pre-match simulations, Arsenal is seen as the clear favorite with a 71.3% chance of securing all three points. Meanwhile, Manchester United's chance of winning is only around 12.3%, and the probability of a draw stands at approximately 16.4%.
Additionally, Manager Mikel Arteta and his players also enjoy full backing from historical data.
According to statistics from Opta, the "Gunners" have won all four of their most recent home matches against Manchester United in the Premier League. This is also the longest home winning streak by any top-flight English club against the Red half of Manchester since West Brom achieved a similar feat with five consecutive wins between 1976 and 1980.
On the other hand, Manchester United have been clearly disadvantaged recently, failing to beat Arsenal in their last six Premier League encounters, with one draw and five losses. In the league's history, Old Trafford has never experienced a seven-match winless streak against Arsenal.
As for Arsenal, they aim to complete their fifth league double over Manchester United, following the 1997/98, 2001/02, 2006/07, and 2023/24 seasons. In this season’s first meeting, Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory at Old Trafford. However, the last time they defeated Manchester United in both league fixtures without conceding was in the 1901/02 season, back when both teams played in the Second Division.
Currently, Arsenal is clearly leading the title race. Mikel Arteta’s squad has accumulated 50 points from 22 matches, creating a 7-point gap over their closest rival, Manchester City. Therefore, if they maintain their form against Manchester United, the London club will not only preserve their advantage but also take a significant step toward conquering the championship.
Conversely, Michael Carrick will be managing his second game as Manchester United’s interim coach, following an impressive debut win against Manchester City. The English tactician has helped restore the players’ confidence after a difficult period and is ready to aim for an upset against Arsenal, a team he previously defeated in 2021 while also serving as interim manager at Old Trafford.
The match between Arsenal and Manchester United is scheduled to kick off at 11:30 PM tomorrow (January 25).
