Coach Vincent Kompany stirs controversy before the big clash by publicly dismissing Real Madrid's "comeback legend," intensifying the tension of the matchup.
Coach Vincent Kompany has heated up the atmosphere ahead of the showdown with Real Madrid more than ever by bluntly rejecting the Royal club's "comeback aura."
Speaking ahead of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg, the captain of Bayern Munich stated that the stories about Real Madrid's comeback ability are exaggerated, creating a "legend" that does not fully reflect reality.
“I don’t think those stories are exclusive to Real Madrid. Other clubs like Barcelona, Liverpool, or Bayern have also achieved similar things. It’s normal for a team playing at a high level,” Kompany emphasized.
The Belgian strategist still maintains a certain respect for the opponent but asserts he is not influenced by Real Madrid's history or reputation. Bayern's sole goal remains victory.
“I believe they can think about a comeback, but that doesn’t matter to us. We are here to win,” he added.
These statements are seen as a direct response to Alvaro Arbeloa, who previously emphasized Real Madrid's "Champions League DNA" and claimed that turning the tide is entirely within the grasp of the 15-time European champions.
In the first leg, Bayern Munich secured a crucial advantage at the Bernabéu, giving them great confidence before returning to their home ground, Allianz Arena. Nevertheless, Kompany remains cautious, especially since the opponent possesses many stars capable of creating surprises at any moment.
“We could have scored more goals, but they could have too. Real Madrid is very dangerous with their speed and quality. The important thing is that we focus on ourselves and find the best solution,” Kompany shared.
Besides the verbal sparring, Bayern also received positive news regarding their squad, as Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry are likely to return in time. This promises to boost the "Gray Tigers'" strength in the decisive match.
Thus, the clash between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid is not only thrilling on the pitch but also tense off it, where sharp statements are heating up the atmosphere before kickoff.
