Neymar continues to stir controversy by arguing with Santos fans after a disappointing draw in the Copa Sudamericana, raising concerns about his image and future.
The Brazilian star remains the center of criticism following his unrestrained actions toward Santos fans, amid the team's disappointing performance in the Copa Sudamericana.
In the match against Deportivo Recoleta, Neymar scored but could not secure a win for Santos, as the Brazilian team was held to a 1-1 draw at home. Notably, this was the Paraguayan side's first appearance in an international tournament, and this result leaves Santos at the bottom of Group E.
After the match, Neymar was interviewed by ESPN Brazil but was interrupted by a fan. The 34-year-old forward immediately gestured for silence before explaining:
“We made mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes; it's part of football. I think the team created many opportunities, we played well, not bad at all.”
He continued to defend the team's performance and acknowledged the fans' reaction:
“The fans are getting impatient; they want us to play better. But the team is playing well, creating chances. I understand their disappointment, but it must be known that football is like this—sometimes the ball just doesn't go into the net.”
However, tensions escalated as Neymar continued exchanging words with fans while leaving the stadium. He targeted a fan directly and launched an attack:
“You should have trained more. You're getting fat, fatso!”
Not stopping there, Neymar shouted:
“Do I have to do everything? Shut up! Am I spoiled? I'm giving my all here! I'll give you 15 minutes of fame!”
This is not the first time Neymar has been embroiled in controversy since returning to Santos in 2025. Previously, the club's fans issued a statement criticizing his attitude after another altercation. Additionally, the forward also sparked controversy due to remarks deemed disrespectful toward a female journalist in Brazil.
The recurring scandals are casting a shadow over Neymar's career at a crucial stage, as he still hopes to be included in the Brazil national team roster led by Carlo Ancelotti for the 2026 World Cup —an event seen as his last opportunity at the national team level. Moreover, Neymar's future is under significant doubt with rumors suggesting he might move to MLS to join Cincinnati.
