Four young Thai football players died in a tragic accident.

Thai football is engulfed in grief following the fatal traffic accident that claimed the lives of four talented young players during the Songkran festival.

The incident happened around 10 PM on April 13 on the road from Chiang Khan town to Ban Tha Bom. A pickup truck suddenly swerved into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a motorcycle carrying four teenagers who were returning from participating in the festival.

The extremely forceful impact dragged the motorcycle over 200 meters before it caught fire. The victims were thrown in multiple directions, with three dying instantly at the scene, and the remaining one passing away after being taken for emergency treatment.

The identities of the four victims are Pattarapong Kanyaprasit (14 years old), Pongpipat Srikhum (14 years old), Chawanakorn Budda (13 years old), and Kittikun Budda (16 years old). All were talented young football players, having studied at Mahathai Suksa Thabom school and were considered to have bright futures in football.

According to information from the newspaper Today Line (Thailand), the truck driver - Wutthichai (28 years old) was confirmed to have tested positive for the drug methamphetamine. Police also discovered items suspected to be related to stimulant use in the vehicle. The results of the alcohol concentration test are still pending announcement.

Currently, this driver is receiving treatment for injuries and cannot provide a clear statement. Meanwhile, the families of the victims have held funeral ceremonies in profound grief, while also demanding that authorities handle the case strictly according to the law.

The passing of the four young players during the year's biggest festival has left a deep shock within the community of Thai football. From a water-splashing festival symbolizing reunion and joy, this year's Songkran Festival has become a painful memory for many families, as dreams on the football field have permanently ended too soon.
