Diego Simeone has been approached three times to join the Champions League-winning team

Coach Diego Simeone is said to be on Inter's radar, as the club looks for a high-profile figure to succeed Cristian Chivu.

According to Foot Mercato, Inter is prepared to make a coaching change if they can persuade their dream target, Diego Simeone. The Argentine strategist is currently the top priority for the Nerazzurri management. In March, media reports indicated Simeone had verbally agreed to extend his contract with Atletico Madrid until 2027, with an option for an additional year. However, earlier, Spanish press also circulated rumors about his potential departure, with Inter seen as a possible destination.

It should be noted that Diego Simeone is not unfamiliar with Inter. He wore the blue-black striped jersey from 1997 to 1999, winning the UEFA Cup and leaving a deep impression before moving to Lazio. As the coach of Atletico Madrid since 2011, Simeone has experienced every emotional high and low, securing major honors including two La Liga titles, two Europa League trophies, and two Champions League final appearances.

This move indicates that the Giuseppe Meazza stadium's owners are urgently planning for the new season. For many sporting directors, this is the opportune moment to shape the future project, from changing the coach, overhauling the squad, to defining transfer priorities.

Cristian Chivu, appointed to succeed Simone Inzaghi, had a relatively positive debut season amid challenging circumstances. With an aging squad, many players past their peak, and newcomers like Luis Henrique, Andy Diouf, or Petar Sucic yet to firmly establish themselves in Serie A, the Romanian strategist's task was far from easy.
