With a fiery attacking style and remarkable progress under coach Cristiano Roland, Vietnam U17 has continuously created unimaginable goal-scoring storms against regional opponents.
Vietnamese youth football is witnessing a promising generation as the U17 players consistently produce overwhelming victories against opponents in the region and continent. The clearest highlight is that they have twice scored 10 or more goals within less than a year, a rare figure at the youth national team level.
The first occurrence was in November 2025, when Vietnam U17 defeated the Northern Mariana Islands team 14-0 in the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup qualifiers. That match witnessed a completely one-sided game, as the red-shirted players dominated from the first minutes. At the 32nd second, the opening goal was scored, followed by an unstoppable goal-scoring torrent.
In this match, numerous names made their mark such as Manh Quan, Van Duong, or Nguyen Luc. Notably, the players showed no signs of slowing down; instead, they continuously increased pressure, demonstrating a serious competitive spirit and clear desire to score. The 14-0 victory not only helped Vietnam U17 take the top spot in the group but also affirmed their superiority in skill level.
By April 2026, a similar scenario repeated at the Southeast Asia U17 Championship when Vietnam U17 defeated Timor-Leste U17 10-0. Against an opponent rated lower, the team of coach Cristiano Roland quickly controlled the game and scored from the 6th minute.
The first half ended with a 4-0 advantage, but that was only the beginning of a more explosive performance in the second half. The Vietnamese players continued to press the opponent, adding 6 goals to complete a substantial victory. Notably, this match witnessed two hat-tricks by Van Duong and Nguyen Luc, showing diversity and effectiveness in their approach to the goal.
Two victories with huge margins in a short time are not merely numbers. They are clear evidence of the comprehensive development of Vietnamese youth football, from technique, tactics to physical fitness and competitive mentality.
More importantly, Vietnam U17 not only wins decisively but also maintains a coherent attacking style, harmonious coordination, and efficient utilization of opportunities. This is the factor that helps them create a significant gap compared to many opponents in the region.
With their current "devastating" form, the decisive match against host Indonesia in the final round of Group A is not only a contest for the top spot but also an opportunity for the "Golden Star" generation to affirm their status as the region's top "boss," ready for further goals on the continental stage.
