The ceremony introducing Coach Hoang Van Phuc as the head coach of the Vietnam women's national team took place in a solemn atmosphere, attended by sports industry leaders and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). This event marks a significant transition for the team following Coach Mai Duc Chung's departure, opening a new phase filled with expectations.
Speaking at the ceremony, VFF General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu emphasized that over the years, the Vietnam women's national team has firmly established its position in Southeast Asia and gradually expanded its reach continentally. To sustain that success, building a successor team and selecting an appropriate head coach play a crucial role in the long-term strategy.
After a thorough evaluation process, VFF decided to appoint Coach Hoang Van Phuc as head coach starting May 1st. VFF leadership highly values his dedication, sense of responsibility, and deep understanding of Vietnamese football, expecting him to contribute to enhancing the professional quality of the women's team in the coming period.
Coach Hoang Van Phuc signed a contract with VFF valid until September 2027, corresponding to after the conclusion of SEA Games 34. On April 17th, he officially commenced his duties, starting with reviewing the squad and coordinating training plan development to prepare for important tournaments like ASIAD 20.
Immediately, the Vietnam women's national team will enter a preparation phase for a series of major objectives, including ASIAD 20 and SEA Games 34. These are competitions requiring meticulous preparation, from technical skills to physical fitness, as well as the team's competitive spirit. VFF commits to providing all favorable conditions regarding facilities and training programs to help the team aim for the best results.
Coach Hoang Van Phuc is not an unfamiliar name in Vietnamese football. He previously served as an assistant to Coach Mai Duc Chung at ASIAD 19 in 2023 and other tournaments, possessing over 15 years of coaching experience. His most notable achievement is the V-League 2017 championship with Quang Nam Club, alongside his tenure coaching the national team and Vietnam U23 from 2013-2014. These experiences are expected to aid him in fulfilling his new responsibilities effectively.
