Coach Hoang Van Phuc officially introduced as head of the Vietnam women's national team, confidently inheriting the legacy of Coach Mai Duc Chung, aiming to maintain regional dominance and elevate continental standing.
Coach Hoang Van Phuc was officially unveiled as the new head coach of the Vietnam women's national team, marking a significant transition for women's football after the successful era under Coach Mai Duc Chung. During the contract signing ceremony with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on April 17, the experienced tactician openly shared his goals, vision, and the pressures of taking over the team.
Speaking to the media, Coach Hoang Van Phuc expressed pride in accepting the new role: “This is a great honor for me. I extend my gratitude to Coach Mai Duc Chung, the mentor who laid a solid foundation for Vietnamese women's football.”. He also emphasized that past achievements, especially qualifying for the 2023 World Cup, will serve as motivation for the team to pursue higher goals in the future.
Although inheriting a team with a rich record of success, Coach Hoang Van Phuc understands the challenges ahead, particularly during this transitional period for the squad. “I am confident in taking on this role. Pressure is normal in coaching, but I have spent time working with the team and understand the players' capabilities.”, he shared.
On the technical side, the strategist born in 1964 stated he will maintain the core values that define the identity of the Vietnam women's national team, while incorporating more modern elements into the playing style. “We will combine the experience of key players with the energy of new-generation talents. The team will aim for a disciplined, modern, and committed style of play.”, Coach Hoang Van Phuc emphasized.
One notable point in his statement was the expansion of opportunities for players, including those of Vietnamese descent abroad. “The national team door is always open for players with the right qualities. I will closely monitor domestic competitions to select the best squad.”, he affirmed.
Additionally, Coach Hoang Van Phuc also praised the progressive spirit of Vietnamese women's football players: “I clearly see the players' eagerness to learn and their effort. This is a very important foundation for the team's development.” He stated he will focus more on psychological aspects, as well as improving transition speed—a key factor in modern football.
In the near future, the Vietnam women's national team will target major tournaments like ASIAD 20, SEA Games 34, and the AFF Cup. With support from VFF and the extensive experience of the coaching staff, Coach Hoang Van Phuc hopes to continue the success of the previous generation while creating new progress for the nation's women's football.
