Nguyen Tran Viet Cuong regrets scoring a double on the day Becamex TP HCM lost to Hanoi 2-4.
After the 2-4 defeat against Hanoi FC at Hang Day Stadium on April 17, striker Nguyen Tran Viet Cuong, despite scoring a double for Becamex TP.HCM, could not hide his regret. The 2000-born shooter stated he could not be satisfied with the team leaving empty-handed, especially as the relegation battle becomes increasingly tense in V.League 2025/26.
On a personal level, the rising striker of Vietnamese football was also recently given the opportunity to join the national team by coach Kim Sang-sik. Viet Cuong sees this as a major motivation to continue striving. He affirmed that the recent training camp gave him more confidence and determination upon returning to the club, and hopes that if he maintains good form, he will continue to be named in future Vietnam team gatherings.
Sharing after the match, Viet Cuong frankly acknowledged the team's performance still had many limitations. He said despite scoring two goals, the most important thing was still the final result. According to this striker, Becamex TP.HCM had periods of good play, but also lost control of the match at times, especially in the first half.
Viet Cuong assessed the first half as a period where the visiting team faced many difficulties under Hanoi FC's pressure. He admitted the team almost could not deploy the ball as desired as the opponent completely controlled the match. The home team's dominance forced Becamex TP.HCM into a passive position and cost them crucial goals.
Entering the second half, the southern team made tactical adjustments and their fighting spirit improved significantly. Viet Cuong said his teammates regained better rhythm, created more opportunities, and tried to score more goals to cling to hope. However, against a highly-rated Hanoi FC, those efforts were insufficient to help the visitors earn points.
This defeat puts Becamex TP.HCM at risk of falling to 11th place on the standings if HAGL wins this round. Therefore, the goal for the remaining journey becomes clearer. Viet Cuong emphasized the whole team considers every match from now on as a final, with the top priority being earning points to achieve the relegation survival goal.
