The acceptance of the Kanchanaburi job by Park Hang-seo has generated a major wave of discussion, with numerous Southeast Asian supporters voicing their astonishment and interest in this choice.
The South Korean tactician officially returns to the coaching bench after agreeing to lead Kanchanaburi. This decision quickly ignited a large wave of debate among football fans across Southeast Asia.
Accordingly, Kanchanaburi confirmed the appointment of Park Hang Seo as head coach under a two-year contract. The primary goal for the 68-year-old strategist is to help the club earn promotion to Thai League 1 in the near future.
However, due to his current role as Vice President of the Korea Football Association and his involvement in supporting the South Korean national team at the 2026 World Cup, Coach Park will only officially take over the role at the end of July. In the meantime, assistant coach Lee Jung Soo will temporarily lead the team.
Immediately after the news was announced, social media across Southeast Asia erupted with reactions. Many Vietnamese fans were surprised that Park chose Thailand, a country that was Vietnam's biggest rival during his tenure leading the "Golden Star Warriors."
One Indonesian fan commented: "Coach Park loves big challenges. If he succeeds with a Thai club, he will earn even more respect across Southeast Asia."
Meanwhile, an account from Vietnam wrote: "It feels a bit strange seeing Coach Park working in Thailand, but he is a professional coach and has the right to choose his own path."
Many Thai fans also expressed excitement over this deal. One supporter shared: "This is the most notable signing in Thailand in years. Kanchanaburi is showing very big ambitions."
Another opinion from Malaysia remarked: "Park Hang Seo always knows how to make an impact. He can help the Thai league attract more attention from across the region."
In his introductory remarks, Coach Park said he had received many offers from other countries, including Vietnam, but chose Thailand because he wanted to take on a challenge that no one had truly succeeded at. The South Korean manager emphasized that he would give his utmost effort to contribute to Thai, Vietnamese, and Southeast Asian football.
Notably, alongside his new job in Thailand, Park Hang Seo still holds a contract with Bac Ninh FC in the role of senior advisor.
