Park Hang Seo mentioned Vietnam when accepting the role to lead Thailand's team.

From a variety of invitations to the choice of moving to Thai League 2, Park Hang Seo provided reasoning that especially intrigued sports enthusiasts across the region.

On the afternoon of May 25, Kanchanaburi FC officially announced Park Hang Seo as their new head coach, a club competing in Thai League 2. The contract between the two parties had actually been signed a few days earlier, but it was only at this time that the Thai team made the news public. The South Korean tactician signed a two-year deal, with his salary remaining undisclosed.

The news of Park's return to the coaching bench quickly drew regional media attention. After leaving the Vietnamese national teams in 2023, the former Vietnam head coach had previously stated that he would not lead any other national team in Southeast Asia. However, this comeback is not just an ordinary career move, as the reasoning behind his decision is attracting special interest.

Coach Park Hang Seo officially became the new head coach of Kanchanaburi.

Regarding his choice to accept Kanchanaburi's offer, Park Hang Seo stressed that he was not swayed by fame or other proposals. The South Korean strategist stated: “Although I received offers from many countries, including Vietnam, the reason I chose Thailand is very straightforward. It is because this is a path that no one has truly succeeded on yet.”

This remark quickly became a focus of attention for both Thai and Southeast Asian media. Park demonstrated that he views this as a challenging journey rather than merely a job. Opting to lead a team in Thai League 2 instead of a more prominent club also reflects his desire to pursue new objectives.

The South Korean manager then elaborated on the motivation that brought him back to the football pitch after nearly a year of contemplation: “The long-term vision and genuine dedication to football shown by Kanchanaburi ignited a spirit of challenge within me. With a sense of responsibility, representing South Korean football, I will give my all as a football coach in Thailand, Vietnam, and Southeast Asia.”

However, Park will not be able to start his new role immediately. He is currently serving as Vice President of the Korea Football Association and is supporting the South Korean national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. Therefore, he must wait until the end of July to officially take charge of the team; during this period, assistant Lee Jung Soo will temporarily lead Kanchanaburi.

The primary objective for Park Hang Seo in his new term is to help Kanchanaburi secure promotion back to Thai League 1. Yet what is drawing the most attention right now is not just the ambition of promotion, but also Park's own statement—a choice he regards as a path that no one has truly conquered successfully in Southeast Asian football.
