Because he is occupied with the World Cup alongside the South Korean team, Coach Park Hang Seo is unable to instantly take charge of the new club.
Park Hang-seo's return to the coaching bench is attracting significant attention from Asian football fans. After a period of 3 years and 6 months without directly managing a team, the South Korean strategist has decided to take on a new challenge in Thailand by signing a contract to lead Kanchanaburi Power FC. According to an announcement from the management company DJ Management on May 25, Park has reached a two-year agreement with the club currently playing in the Thai second division. This is seen as a notable turning point in the career of the coach who once created one of the most successful periods for Vietnamese football.
However, Coach Park Hang Seo will not be able to immediately travel to Thailand to start his new role. Currently, he is serving as Vice President of the Korea Football Association and as head of the support team for the national team during their preparation campaign for the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, he needs to complete his duties with the South Korean team before officially beginning his new journey at Kanchanaburi Power FC at the end of July.
According to the plan, on May 29, Park Hang Seo, along with technical experts and logistics staff from the Korea Football Association, will depart for the United States to support the team led by Coach Hong Myung-bo. This World Cup support unit was newly established in May 2025 with the goal of preparing as best as possible for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Park is regarded as an experienced figure capable of assisting the South Korean team both professionally and organizationally.
During the time Coach Park Hang Seo has not yet joined Kanchanaburi Power FC, assistant Lee Jung Soo will temporarily take charge of leading the Thai club. Lee Jung Soo is considered the trusted right-hand man of Park and will maintain the coaching duties until the 68-year-old strategist officially arrives at the club. The early appointment of the assistant helps Kanchanaburi Power FC prepare steadily for the new season.
DJ Management stated that Park's choice of Thailand as his next destination is a "major challenge" in his coaching career. After leaving a deep mark in Vietnam with outstanding achievements at the AFF Cup, SEA Games, and World Cup qualifiers, he is expected to continue bringing positive change to his new club. Thai football has a highly competitive environment, so Park's decision has also generated special interest from regional media.
After completing his duties with the South Korean national team at the 2026 World Cup, Coach Park Hang Seo will formally begin his work at Kanchanaburi Power FC. This is seen as the first time he will lead a club in Southeast Asia since leaving the Vietnamese national team. Fans are waiting to see whether the coach once regarded as a symbol of success in Vietnamese football can continue to make his mark on Thai soil.
