Wayne Rooney considers Viktor Gyokeres to be the "signing of the season," with the Swedish forward contributing significantly to Arsenal's Premier League title after a long wait.
Wayne Rooney gave special praise to Viktor Gyokeres after his brilliant season with Arsenal, and affirmed that the Swedish striker is the "signing of the season" in the 2025/26 Premier League.
After several consecutive years finishing as runners-up, Arsenal finally got their hands on the Premier League title with a 7-point gap over Manchester City. In that success, Gyokeres is seen as the most important piece that manager Mikel Arteta added in last summer's transfer window.
The Swedish striker scored up to 21 goals in all competitions, making a huge difference for Arsenal's attack with his physicality, pressing, and clinical finishing. Although his start at the Emirates wasn't explosive, Gyokeres grew better with each game and quickly became the spearhead of the Gunners' frontline.
Speaking on the BBC, Wayne Rooney emphasized: "I think Viktor Gyokeres is the best signing of the season. He brings exactly what Arsenal have been missing for many years. After three consecutive seasons finishing second, Arsenal finally have a center-forward who makes a difference."
The former England striker also believes that Arteta has significantly changed his team-building philosophy. Instead of trying to copy Pep Guardiola's possession style as before, Arsenal this season has become more pragmatic and powerful.
Rooney commented: "Arteta used to try to play like Man City but couldn't win the title. This season they changed their player recruitment approach, building a more physical and solid squad. Arsenal hardly concede many goals and can score from any position."
Besides the Premier League title, Arsenal now also have a chance to win a historic double as they prepare to face PSG in the Champions League final on May 30. With Gyokeres' current form, Arsenal fans have every right to dream of a perfect season.
