Nguyen Vu Hoang, a Vietnamese-born midfielder playing abroad, helped U19 Legia Warszawa secure the Polish U19 championship in the 2025/26 campaign.
Overseas Vietnamese midfielder Nguyen Vu Hoang is drawing significant attention after leading U19 Legia Warszawa to victory in the Polish U19 league for the 2025/26 season. This achievement not only marks a memorable milestone in the career of the 2009-born player but also raises high hopes for the future of Vietnamese football.
In this season, U19 Legia Warszawa demonstrated outstanding strength by securing the championship as early as three rounds before the end. This is also the ninth time the traditional Polish youth club has claimed the national U19 title, further cementing its status as one of Europe's top youth academies.
For Nguyen Vu Hoang, this season holds special significance. Joining the Legia Warszawa academy in 2025, the 16-year-old midfielder quickly made an impression with his ball control, tactical awareness, and confidence in midfield. His strong performances earned him a long-term contract with the club until 2028.
Initially, Nguyen Vu Hoang mainly played for Legia Warszawa's U16 and U17 teams. However, in the latter part of the season, the overseas Vietnamese player was promoted to the U19 squad and consistently given starting opportunities. In a recent 2-1 victory over U19 Znicz Pruszków, he made his mark with a crucial assist, helping his team secure all three points.
Being allowed to play above his age group at age 16 shows that Nguyen Vu Hoang is highly valued by Legia Warszawa's coaching staff. If he continues his current development trajectory, the young midfielder has a real chance to feature in the 2026/27 UEFA Youth League, a competition often described as the "Champions League for youth teams" in European football.
In recent years, Vietnamese football has seen many successful overseas Vietnamese players returning to compete, such as Filip Nguyen, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, and Viktor Le. With his strong progress in the European football environment, Nguyen Vu Hoang is regarded as one of the next promising young talents for Vietnamese football in the future.
