Roy Keane keeps lashing out at Bruno Fernandes, following the Portuguese star's record-breaking assists in the Premier League and his open rebuttal of the Manchester United legend.
The final day of the 2025/26 Premier League season witnessed a historic milestone when Bruno Fernandes officially reached 21 assists after a 3-0 win over Brighton. This achievement allowed the Portuguese forward to surpass two greats, Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, and become the player with the most assists in a single Premier League campaign.
However, the Red Devils captain's joy was not complete, as the public war of words between him and legendary former captain Roy Keane escalated to a fever pitch.
The conflict originated from the earlier match against Nottingham Forest, when Fernandes equaled the assist record. On the program The Overlap, Roy Keane admitted he felt "extremely angry" and "ashamed" at how Man Utd players celebrated an individual honor.
The Irish tactician criticized: “After the match, he was interviewed and said: 'Yeah, a few times I should have shot, but I passed the ball.' It's incredible. How can a footballer go into a match and talk about personal records?”
Immediately, Bruno Fernandes hit back strongly on the podcast Diary of a CEO. The Portuguese star stated that he respects both praise and criticism, but does not accept having the truth twisted.
Fernandes said sharply: “What I don't like is when people lie. What Roy Keane said is basically a lie. Either he watched a different interview, or he put words in my mouth that I never said.” The player also revealed that he contacted manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to ask for the phone number in order to have a face-to-face talk with his senior.
However, Roy Keane showed he is not one to easily let things go. Just hours after Fernandes' remarks were published, the notorious former midfielder shared a highly suggestive photo on his personal Instagram with a shocking caption: “Too much attention makes the donkey think it's a lion.”
This deeply sarcastic insinuation by Roy Keane only added fuel to the fire. For now, it remains unclear whether the two have had any private conversation to resolve the misunderstanding. Nonetheless, the wave of criticism from previous-generation legends aimed at the current Man Utd dressing room will certainly remain a hot topic in the days to come.
