Vietnam U19 reached Medan, Indonesia, as they eagerly gear up for the 2026 Southeast Asian U19 Championship.

On the evening of May 28, the Vietnam U19 team arrived in Medan, Indonesia, following a two-leg flight from Ho Chi Minh City via Jakarta to Medan. to take part in the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship.

According to the early plan coordinated by the Vietnam Football Federation's functional departments, the 36-member Vietnam U19 team completed their journey exactly as scheduled. Throughout immigration procedures, connecting flights, and baggage collection, everything proceeded smoothly with no unforeseen problems. All team members maintained good health and stable spirits after nearly a full day of travel.

Immediately after completing procedures at Medan airport, the entire team headed to their hotel to rest and get ready for their first training sessions in Indonesia.

Notably, as soon as Vietnam U19 landed at Medan airport, a large number of Indonesian journalists and media were present to film, photograph, and cover the arrival of coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's squad. This reflects the host media's considerable interest in this year's tournament, particularly for teams considered strong contenders in Group A.

The 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship will be held from June 1 to June 14 in Indonesia and is considered a vital preparation step for Vietnam U19 as they aim for the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers. According to the match schedule, Vietnam U19 will play against Timor-Leste on June 1, Myanmar on June 4, and Indonesia on June 7.

Before departing, head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi trimmed the squad to 25 players. As planned, the coaching staff will continue to assess and finalize the official 23-player roster one day before the team's first match in the tournament. This is a competition where Vietnam U19 will not have their strongest squad. as several key players are occupied playing for their clubs in the V-League.

Notable absentees include center-back Đinh Quang Kiệt, forward Trần Gia Bảo of HAGL, and striker Nguyễn Lê Phát from Ninh Bình. These players are highly regarded and have been pillars of Vietnam's youth teams in recent times.
