Unbelievable incident in V-League: Club loses super striker due to interpreter

Quang Nam was on the verge of signing Bruno Cunha, a striker with 15 goals in 14 matches in the 2019 V-League, yet a translation mishap made the Brazilian player abandon the club overnight.

One of the rarest stories in V-League history was just revealed by coach Vu Hong Viet. In 2019, Quang Nam almost acquired striker Bruno Cunha Cantanhede, a name that later exploded in Vietnam's top league with extremely impressive goal-scoring abilities.

According to coach Vu Hong Viet, Bruno was initially introduced to Quang Nam by an agent during a mid-season transfer window. After watching videos and assessing his abilities, the 47-year-old coach was quickly convinced by the Brazilian striker's playing style. He agreed to let Bruno undergo physical fitness tests, integration checks, and practical professional assessments before making a final decision.

Few people know that Bruno (in red) almost wore the Quang Nam shirt.

However, things took an unexpected turn. When the 1993-born striker arrived at the "club of Quang region," several issues emerged in communication between the player and the club, particularly involving the interpreter's role. According to Coach Vu Hong Viet, inaccurate or insensitive transmission of information caused Bruno to misinterpret the club's messages. This made the Brazilian forward feel uncomfortable and even somewhat "hurt."

A notable detail: during his stay at Quang Nam, while having a meal at the club's canteen and raising a question about the portion, the interpreter's response was poor. Instead of being explanatory or encouraging, the delivery made Bruno feel looked down upon. This moment was considered the "straw that broke the camel's back," escalating the situation. As a result, the 1993-born foreign player decided to leave Quang Nam the very next day. Remarkably, the coach of the "Quang club" had not even had a direct conversation with Bruno due to scheduling conflicts. The deal ended in great surprise and regret.

Coach Vu Hong Viet had not even met or directly communicated with Bruno.

Later, he joined another club in the V-League and quickly proved his worth. The Brazilian striker scored 15 goals in just 14 matches, becoming the co-top scorer of the 2019 season alongside Pape Omar Faye (Hanoi). This impressive form made many Quang Nam fans regretful, because if everything hadn't fallen apart due to communication issues, the club could have possessed one of the most dangerous scorers in the league.

In the 2020 season, he continued to maintain high form, contributing to Viettel (now The Cong - Viettel) winning the V-League championship. From an unfinished deal at the "Quang club," Bruno became one of the most memorable foreign players of the league at that time.

Bruno showed outstanding performance in the Viettel shirt.

This story is not only rare but also demonstrates the importance of communication, interpretation, and human management in modern football. Even a small error in transmission can completely change the outcome of a major transfer deal.
