The market value of English players is highly deceptive—they burn out like shooting stars. Examples include Tottenham's Dele Alli and Man City's Raheem Sterling.
According to the latest from authoritative tabloid *The Sun*, Sterling has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He has been released on bail but faces further investigation, which could effectively end his career.

Sterling came through Liverpool’s youth academy and made his name there. He joined Manchester City from Liverpool in the 2015 summer transfer window for €63.7 million. Benefiting from Kevin De Bruyne's top-tier midfield playmaking, he became a star player. In the 2022 summer window, he left City for Chelsea for €56.2 million. During his seven years at City, he scored 131 goals and provided 87 assists in 339 appearances across all competitions, winning 11 trophies. In the 2019-20 season, at 25 and with 31 goals and 10 assists, Sterling peaked with a market value of €160 million. However, after leaving City and without De Bruyne, his form plummeted. Last winter, Chelsea terminated his contract at age 31, and his value crashed to €5 million. The former English prodigy, then without a club, moved to the Eredivisie to join Feyenoord.

At 31, a player is usually still in his prime, but Sterling can no longer keep up. In half a season at Feyenoord, he made eight Eredivisie appearances (five starts), totaling 421 minutes, with zero goals and one assist. With his contract now expired, Feyenoord will certainly not keep a goal-less Sterling. It is highly likely that this former English star will retire.
