About U19 Vietnam

The U19 Vietnam team has completed its final preparations before departing for Indonesia to participate in the 2026 U19 Southeast Asia Championship. After weeks of training and friendly matches, coach Yutaka Ikeuchi and his players are heading into the tournament with high determination, hoping to continue the success of Vietnamese youth football on the regional stage.

During a team meeting on the morning of May 26, VFF General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu, on behalf of the Vietnam Football Federation leadership, encouraged the team and assigned tasks before their departure. The VFF leaders expressed their hope that the young players would play confidently, maximize their abilities, and thereby affirm Vietnam's position in Southeast Asian football.

To prepare for the tournament, U19 Vietnam had a 10-day training camp in Japan from May 14 to 24. During this time, the team played four friendly matches against opponents including the U20 and U22 teams of Shizuoka Sangyo University, Tokai Gakuen University, and the B team of Shimizu S-Pulse.

These high-quality matches in Japan allowed the coaching staff to assess each player's abilities, refine the squad framework, and test tactical options. Facing teams with strong physical foundations, disciplined play, and high speed also provided valuable lessons for the young players.

Coach Yutaka Ikeuchi said that U19 Vietnam has had relatively comprehensive preparation in both professionalism and competitive psychology. However, the team still faced some obstacles as they could not fully assemble the squad because many players were serving their parent clubs or had to ensure their academic schedules.

Despite these difficulties, U19 Vietnam still aims to perform impressively at this year's tournament. With thorough preparation and a high sense of determination, the young Vietnamese team hopes to make a strong mark and compete for top positions at the 2026 U19 Southeast Asia Championship.
