East Timor fans react fiercely after heavy loss to Vietnam in AFF tournament

East Timor supporters showed varied responses after the 0-3 loss to Vietnam U19 in the Southeast Asian U19 tournament.

After the 0-3 defeat to Vietnam U19, many East Timor fans still offered great encouragement to the young players. Quite a few opinions suggested that the scoreline did not truly reflect the team's performance for most of the match. "The players fought with all their might. We were not completely outmatched and even made Vietnam struggle at several points," one fan commented.

Many other fans also saw positive signs from Timor Leste's youth football development. "Compared to a few years ago, the current U19 team is much better organized. They know how to build up play, apply pressure, and no longer just defend with numbers. If they maintain this spirit, Timor Leste can definitely earn points in the next matches," a user remarked.

Some fans particularly praised the fighting spirit of the young players. "Even though we conceded very early, the team never gave up. They kept contesting, counter-attacking, and creating notable chances. That is more praiseworthy than the result itself," a supporter wrote. Many believe that the gap between Timor Leste and the stronger teams in the region is gradually narrowing.

On the other hand, quite a few fans argued that this defeat once again exposed a chronic weakness in physical fitness. "For over 80 minutes, we still had a chance. But when the players ran out of stamina, the formation lost its shape and we immediately paid the price with two consecutive goals," a comment that received widespread agreement stated.

Some opinions also noted that Timor Leste U19 still relies heavily on individual moments of brilliance rather than clear attacking patterns. "The team has a few skillful and fast players, but when they are tightly marked, their ability to create breakthroughs drops significantly. We need more collective coordination to compete with the top Southeast Asian teams," a fan observed.

Despite these limitations, the majority of fans remained optimistic after the match. "Losing to Vietnam is not a huge surprise. What matters is that the players showed progress and commendable fighting spirit. If they improve their fitness and consistency, Timor Leste can definitely spring surprises in the remainder of the tournament," a fan concluded.
