Thailand U19 demonstrated their power by crushing Brunei 9-0 in the opening match of the 2026 Southeast Asian U19 Championship.
Thailand U19 could not have had a more impressive start at the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship as they defeated Brunei U19 with a resounding 9-0 scoreline. From the very first minutes, the representatives of the Land of Smiles showed complete superiority in skill and constantly pressured the opponent's half. The reward came in the 7th minute when Itthimon capitalized on a defensive mistake by Brunei to fire a powerful shot into the top corner, opening the scoring.
After the early goal, Thailand U19 played with increasing confidence. In the 24th minute, Pattaratron sprinted forward to meet a through ball from a teammate before turning and firing a precise angled shot, doubling the lead. Just two minutes later, this forward shone again by leaping high to head home from a corner kick on the right side, making it 3-0 for the blue-shirted team.
Thailand's pressure never let up. In the 36th minute, Pattaratron completed his hat-trick after a convenient assist from Witthawat. The player dribbled cleverly down the right flank before crossing for his teammate to easily slot the ball into the net. Brunei's defense was utterly helpless against the fast and precise combinations of their opponents.
Before the first half ended, Thailand U19 added a fifth goal. In the 39th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to the blue-shirted team after a handball in the box. From the spot, Pichaiya calmly deceived goalkeeper Hakeem, sending Thailand into the break with a commanding 5-goal lead.
In the second half, the one-sided game continued. In the 49th minute, Siwakorn curled a tricky shot into the net to make it 6-0. Just three minutes later, the same player completed his brace by taking advantage of a goalkeeping error from Brunei to easily tap into an empty net. The defensive efforts of the yellow-shirted team were almost completely ineffective.
In the remaining time, Thailand U19 scored two more goals through Kongnat in the 69th minute and Natthakit in the 89th minute. The 9-0 victory not only secured three full points but also helped the young team from the Land of Smiles temporarily top Group B with an outstanding goal difference, thereby reaffirming their status as a top contender for this year's championship.
