HERE WE GO: Real Madrid locks in its second blockbuster signing of the Mourinho era

After securing Denzel Dumfries, Real Madrid completed yet another significant transfer, with Ibrahima Konate accepting to move to the Spanish giants.

The 2026 summer transfer window is witnessing Real Madrid's turbulent maneuvers. Immediately after striking a deal with full-back Denzel Dumfries, club president Florentino Perez went on to trigger the second high-profile signing, Ibrahima Konate.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, all agreements between the parties have been finalized. The French center-back will put pen to paper on a four-year contract, running until June 2030 with the Spanish royal club. In fact, Konate is said to have flatly set aside lucrative offers with enormous salaries from Saudi Arabia in order to prioritize realizing his dream of wearing the Los Blancos shirt.

An official announcement will be released by the club immediately after the presidential election concludes

This deal was personally approved by Florentino Perez and considered a strategic card in his election campaign. He firmly stated to the media: "Jose Mourinho and Ibrahima Konate are my first two signings. Anyone who knows me understands that the world's best players always want to play for Real Madrid, and I will make that happen."

On the flip side, losing Ibrahima Konate for free is a cold bucket of water thrown directly at Liverpool's ambitions. The Anfield club is experiencing a turbulent period after a disappointing season, leading to coach Arne Slot's dismissal and a series of key players leaving.

Although once praised by his senior Virgil van Dijk as a "world-class" center-back, the 27-year-old's form over the past two seasons in England has somewhat declined and become inconsistent.

Konate is highly rated for his speed and ability in one-on-one duels

However, letting an experienced defender in the prime of his career, with an estimated market value of around £33 million (according to Football Transfers), leave on a free transfer without collecting any fee is a huge financial and professional loss for the Reds.

For Real Madrid, the arrival of the French international is expected to bring solidity to their defensive system for years to come. After Dumfries, Konate will be the next blockbuster to arrive at the Bernabeu, marking an ambitious summer for the Spanish royal club.
