U19 Indonesia needs to show greater calmness and solidity in the 2026 ASEAN U19 tournament.
The U19 Indonesia team has a chance to extend their positive winning streak when facing U19 Timor Leste. in their second Group A match at the 2026 AFC U19 Championship. The game will take place at the North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Theoretically, the U19 Myanmar team is considered stronger. This was especially evident in their opening match, where coach Nova Arianto's side defeated U19 Myanmar 3-0. That result put Indonesia in a favorable position in Group A. Another three points against Timor Leste would further clear the path to the semifinals.
However, victory is not the coaching staff's only goal. Nova Arianto wants to see the players' style develop further to align with the identity and philosophy they are building.
Indonesia's performance in the win over Myanmar brought three goals without conceding. However, Nova Arianto admitted that some aspects still need improvement, especially in executing the prepared game plan.
Veteran coach Toni Ho from Makassar shares a similar view. He believes that Indonesian players need to be calmer and less rushed when in possession. "To successfully execute Nova Arianto's tactics, the players must not be in a hurry. They need to play calmly and follow a more structured game plan," said Toni Ho.
He noted that the players' enthusiasm in the match against Myanmar was too high, leading them to sometimes rush their attacks. The desire to score quickly prevented the intended game plan from being fully executed.
"Modern football is about controlling the tempo of the game, including ball possession, player movement, and well-organized attacks. This requires emotional control, good chemistry among players, and composure," he explained.
