The Real Madrid presidential election has intensified unexpectedly on the eve of the new season, as hopeful Enrique Riquelme has publicly vowed to secure Erling Haaland for the Santiago Bernabeu should he be elected. This declaration has drawn a sharp response from Manchester City, now contemplating legal action.
On a TV show as part of his campaign, Riquelme appeared wearing a Real Madrid jersey with Haaland's name printed on the back. The 37-year-old businessman stated that signing the Norwegian striker would be one of his top priorities if he defeats current president Florentino Perez in the upcoming election.
However, this ambitious announcement quickly met a reaction from Manchester City. A representative for the English club insisted that any information regarding Haaland's future is completely unfounded.

Manchester City threatens to file a lawsuit as the Real Madrid presidential hopeful is intent on acquiring Haaland
"The stories coming from Spain about Erling Haaland's future are false. No clauses exist that allow this deal to happen. We are reviewing legal action concerning the use of the player's image in this context," emphasized a Manchester City spokesperson.
In addition to promising to bring Haaland to Madrid, Riquelme also declared he would sign Man City midfielder Rodri and appoint legend Raul Gonzalez as sporting director if victorious. The young candidate further affirmed he would seek a "super coach" instead of bringing Jose Mourinho back to the Bernabeu.
Meanwhile, Florentino Perez is fully leveraging his incumbency advantage. Spanish media report that he has reached an agreement for Mourinho to return as Real Madrid's head coach and is expected to announce notable contracts within this week.
Nevertheless, observers believe Perez remains the strongest candidate for the presidency after years of dominating at the Bernabeu. However, Riquelme's emergence has made the election more vibrant than ever, also sparking significant controversy between Real Madrid and Manchester City over Haaland's future.
