Thai fans make a blunt statement as Vietnam faces Yemen in the Asian tournament.

Following Yemen's qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup and being placed in Vietnam's group, numerous Thai supporters stated that Kim Sang-sik's team has a significant opportunity to beat the West Asian side and fight for advancement.

Early on June 5 (Vietnam time), Yemen defeated Lebanon with a 2-0 scoreline, thanks to a brace from striker Nasser Al Gahwashi. The West Asian team finished the qualifiers with 14 points, topped Group B, and officially returned to the Asian Cup stage after missing the 2023 edition.

Yemen's participation means Group E of the 2027 Asian Cup is now confirmed to include Vietnam, South Korea, UAE, and Yemen. This is considered a challenging group for Coach Kim Sang-sik's squad, as they must face two strong opponents: South Korea and the UAE.

Nevertheless, many Southeast Asian fans still believe that the Vietnamese team has the ability to compete for third place, or even spring a surprise to secure a Round of 16 berth. On several regional football forums, Thai fans have shared their views on Vietnam's chances after learning the draw results.

One Thai fan commented: "Vietnam is stronger than Yemen. If they play at their true level, they can definitely win the direct encounter."

Another supporter argued: "South Korea and UAE are the top two candidates in the group. Vietnam's most realistic goal is to fight for third place and wait for an opportunity to advance."

Meanwhile, another fan praised the progress of the Vietnamese team under Coach Kim Sang-sik: "Vietnam is building a very clear playing style. They can trouble any opponent if they maintain their pressing intensity."

Another opinion also sounded optimistic: "I think Vietnam has a chance to get past the group stage. Yemen is not too scary, and in the knockout rounds anything can happen."

At the 2027 Asian Cup, Vietnam's target is to advance past the group stage before aiming for higher milestones.
