Florentino Pérez and Riquelme are vying to become Real Madrid's club president, and Riquelme has said he would bring in Haaland if elected. After that, Manchester City denied the possibility and warned they would sue. Meanwhile, Haaland's father and agent expressed that the player does not want to leave City, but they did so diplomatically.
Regarding this, Spanish media outlet Cadena SER reporter Antón Meana stated on his show that Haaland's contract with Manchester City indeed contains a release clause. If Riquelme can reach a personal agreement with Haaland, then Real Madrid could pry the Premier League striker away without much difficulty.
In my opinion, Haaland is a player from the Raiola camp, so having a release clause is typical and likely not very high. It is probably well below Haaland's market value of €200 million; this is a standard move by the Raiola team to prepare an exit strategy for the player. Furthermore, Haaland's previous transfers to Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City all involved paying release clauses—€8 million, €20 million, and €60 million respectively—all below market value. However, Haaland's side will demand huge signing bonuses, agent fees, and top salaries. Haaland currently has the highest wage in the Premier League at £525,000 per week, a massive lead over others. In summary, it is highly likely that Haaland's contract with Manchester City includes a release clause, possibly between €120 million and €150 million. Therefore, the possibility of Real Madrid securing Haaland is entirely real, but it will be Florentino Pérez carrying it out, not Riquelme. What do you think?
