Florentino vs. Riquelme: the former offers a €1.5 million bid for a superstar, while the latter wants to sign Haaland

Real Madrid has gone two consecutive seasons without a trophy, and since Mbappé joined, the club has fallen into turmoil. The Real Madrid presidential election is underway, with Florentino competing against Riquelme. Both recently revealed their transfer plans in interviews to garner votes, but fans say Florentino will easily defeat Riquelme and be re-elected.

Florentino’s actions and promises: he has officially stated that if he wins the Real Madrid presidency, he will pay a €15 million release clause to bring in Mourinho as coach, sign two top defenders—poaching Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries with a €20 million release clause, and sign Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer. Florentino will also bid over €150 million for a top attacking superstar.

Riquelme’s actions and promises: he intends to sign Haaland and Rodri from Manchester City, having already signed and notarized commitment letters, to which Manchester City responded by threatening legal action. He also invited former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, with Romano reporting that the move is possible. He invited Real Madrid legend Raúl to serve as sporting director, Real Madrid legend Hierro to oversee youth development, and Real Madrid legend Casillas to take a senior management role.

In my opinion, Riquelme’s boasts are unreliable, and Florentino will likely win the election easily. However, the real culprit behind Real Madrid’s decline and two trophy-less seasons is not Mbappé, but Florentino, who only focuses on big-name signings rather than squad balance and tactical needs. Florentino has grown old and even senile; if he remains Real Madrid’s president, it will be very difficult for the club to truly rebuild.
