The overseas Vietnamese goalkeeper Patrik Lê Giang disclosed that FIFA has formally granted him permission to represent the Vietnam national team, following the completion of all necessary steps for his sports nationality transfer.
Speaking after his club, Cong An TP.HCM, defeated Thép Xanh Nam Định 4-2 in the LPBank National Cup 2025/26 semifinal at Thiên Trường Stadium on the evening of June 11, Patrik Lê Giang said:
"Three days ago, I received one of the most wonderful and happiest pieces of news in my life. FIFA has officially allowed me to play for the Vietnam national team. All procedural conditions are now complete, and I am ready to give my best for the country."
In the match in Nam Định, the 1992-born goalkeeper played with great effort, helping the police club secure a spot in the final.

Assessing the victory over the home team, Patrik Lê Giang shared: "We knew Nam Định is a very strong team with many outstanding individuals. However, the whole team prepared thoroughly. Football is a team sport. Scoring four goals early on made it very difficult for the opponent to mount a comeback.
I am truly happy that the team successfully held onto this result. As I said, we have reached the final, and the next goal is to win the championship.
My feelings right now are amazing. We fully deserved the win today, especially in the first half with four beautiful goals. Even though we conceded two goals later, the most important thing is that the team has secured its place in the final. I am very happy and proud of my teammates."
Commenting on their final opponent, Ninh Bình FC, which will take place at 6:00 PM on June 14, Patrik Lê Giang said:
"All the teams in the semifinals were very strong and capable of winning to advance. I am happy that we made it here. We will face a very strong Ninh Bình club, but the key is to focus on ourselves. The whole team needs to recover quickly to prepare as well as possible for the final."
Patrik Lê Giang was born in 1992 in Slovakia to a Vietnamese father and a Slovakian mother. He grew up in a European football environment, which demands high physical, technical, and tactical intelligence, especially for a goalkeeper.
In the past, Patrik was called up to Slovakia's youth national teams, including the U19 and U21 sides, allowing him to gain international playing experience early on. Before coming to Vietnam, he spent many years playing in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, highly competitive leagues.
In 2023, Patrik Lê Giang joined Cong An Ha Noi before moving to CLB TP.HCM for more playing opportunities. With FIFA's green light, the 33-year-old goalkeeper now has a chance to realize his dream of wearing the Vietnam national team jersey in the near future.
