German champions Bayern Munich are reportedly preparing an initial bid for Manchester United's discarded forward Marcus Rashford. In the 2025/26 campaign, Rashford netted 14 goals and set up 14 more in all competitions while playing for Hansi Flick's Barcelona. However, the Spanish title winners opted against triggering the €30m (£26m) buyout, leading Flick's ex-club Bayern to possibly make a move.

Rashford's €30m buyout clause expires next Monday, and Barcelona have already decided not to use it. After signing another English winger, Anthony Gordon, Barcelona only want to extend the loan of the 28-year-old, but Manchester United are unwilling to bow to their rivals. According to the Manchester Evening News, no formal talks have taken place between United and Barcelona until recently, with no progress made.
TEAMtalk reports that Bayern, who also wanted Gordon, are seriously considering whether to bring in Rashford. It is claimed that Bayern have already held preliminary discussions with Rashford's agent, and the feedback has been highly positive, so they may take further action.
Bayern are prepared to pay Manchester United €25m (£21.5m) to secure a permanent transfer for Rashford. Vincent Kompany needs a winger who can also play as a centre-forward to cover for Harry Kane when he rests, and Rashford fits that description. Bayern loaned Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea last season, and he may return to the Blues.
Manchester United would naturally prefer €30m, but if only €25m is offered, it is not an unacceptable outcome. However, the biggest hurdle to the transfer is not the fee but Rashford and his wages. First, Rashford must abandon his Barcelona dream, stop insisting on only playing at Camp Nou, and agree to consider Bayern's proposal.

British media also point out that Bayern will not offer high wages to a substitute player. Therefore, Rashford, who earns £325,000 a week at Manchester United, must agree to a major salary reduction. Just as when he joined Barcelona, the United star accepted a 45% pay cut to facilitate the deal.
Additionally, Rashford must accept another reality: he cannot be guaranteed a starting spot at Bayern and will have to compete with Luis Díaz, Michael Olise, and Jamal Musiala for playing time. This is similar to his situation at Barcelona. Considering Bayern play many matches, his game time will still be adequate. At the Allianz Arena, Rashford, who just won his first La Liga title with Barcelona, could collect more league championship medals.
BBC's Simon Stone stressed that he would be very surprised if Rashford remains at Manchester United. "Carrick has spoken positively about Rashford, but if he really plays for United again, I would be very surprised. Last summer, the impression I got from all sides was that his career at Old Trafford was over."
Stone continued: "United already have replacements. Cunha can play that position, and Mason Mount is also a suitable option. Rashford never really liked playing as a centre-forward anyway. Sesko had a fairly good first season in the number nine role, and there are other options for the position."

At the England training camp, when asked by Manchester United fans, Rashford still stated that after the World Cup he will return to Carrington. For the Red Devils, this is certainly not the result they want. The club hopes to find a new buyer before then, complete the player's transfer, and part ways with him for good.
