OFFICIAL: Vietnam National Team finalizes friendly opponent before AFF Cup

The Vietnamese squad is set to face Myanmar in a preparatory fixture at Thai Nguyen Stadium ahead of their official campaign in the 2026 AFF Cup.

Coach Kim Sang Sik has just announced the list of 28 players called up to the Vietnam national team during the second training camp of 2026 to prepare for international friendlies and the journey to defend the title at the 2026 ASEAN Cup.

According to the schedule, the team will assemble in Hanoi from June 22 before departing for South Korea for a training camp from July 2 to July 14. During this period, Coach Kim Sang Sik's squad will play three international friendlies to evaluate the roster, test personnel, and finalize tactical plans.

After completing the training camp in South Korea, the Vietnam national team will return home to continue training and have a friendly against Myanmar at Thai Nguyen Stadium on July 18. This is seen as a crucial dress rehearsal before embarking on the 2026 ASEAN Cup campaign.

In this year's regional tournament, the Vietnam national team will start their group stage with an away match against Timor Leste on July 24. With thorough preparation and a squad considered to have depth, Coach Kim Sang Sik's team aims for nothing less than successfully defending the championship.

The call-up list this time continues to feature many naturalized players and players of Vietnamese origin such as Nguyen Xuan Son, Dang Van Lam, Do Hoang Hen, along with new faces including Patrik Le Giang, Nguyen Tai Loc, and Ngo Dang Khoa. The presence of these players trained in various football environments promises to bring added quality and competition to the team across many positions.

Additionally, Coach Kim Sang Sik still trusts the experienced core with familiar names such as Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Do Duy Manh, Le Pham Thanh Long, Doan Van Hau, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Van Vi, Nguyen Hai Long, Pham Xuan Manh, Nguyen Thanh Chung, and Truong Tien Anh. These are all players who have been with the national team for many years and possess extensive international experience.

Among the clubs contributing players to the national team, Cong An Hanoi is the club with the highest number of called-up players, with 6 individuals. Although preparing for the 2026/27 AFC Champions League Elite qualifiers, the reigning V.League champions are still making every effort to allow their players to fulfill national team duties, continuing to show responsibility and support for the Vietnam national team.
