World Cup quarterfinal spots: 4 confirmed, 3 from Europe! Two quarterfinal matchups set: England vs Norway

On July 6th Beijing time, two more Round of 16 matches took place. England and Norway, two European giants, eliminated Mexico and Brazil respectively to meet in the quarterfinals.[Watch the World Cup on Migu Video]

In the first high-profile match, Norway stunned title contenders Brazil 2-1, advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time and setting a new best in team history. Haaland scored a brace with a header and a shot in the 79th and 90th minutes, becoming the hero of Norway’s victory. With 7 goals, Haaland tied Mbappé and Messi at the top of the scoring chart.

Brazil only managed a late penalty by Neymar in stoppage time to pull one back. Failing to reach the quarterfinals, Brazil recorded their worst World Cup performance in 36 years.

In the later match, England overcame adversity after Quansah was sent off in the second half, playing with one man down, to defeat host Mexico 3-2, reaching the quarterfinals for the third consecutive World Cup.

Bellingham scored twice in two minutes in the first half, while Kane added a penalty in the second half. Mexico responded with goals from Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez.

So far, four quarterfinal spots have been confirmed, three from Europe:England, France, and Norway, plus a strong North African teamMorocco. Brazil, Paraguay, Mexico, and Canada have all been eliminated, a heavy blow for the Americas. Mexico became the second host nation to exit, following Canada. The only remaining host is the United States.

With four quarterfinalists set, two quarterfinal matchups are confirmed: England will face Norway for a semifinal berth, while France will meet Morocco for the second consecutive tournament.
