Myanmar's national squad is preparing to alter its coaching staff before the July 18 friendly match with Vietnam.
According to the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF), coach Jørn Andersen arrived in Yangon today (July 7) for final negotiations on taking charge of the national team.
The 63-year-old manager is meeting with MFF officials. If both parties reach an agreement, Jørn Andersen will officially sign a contract and become the new head coach of Myanmar in the coming days.
The appointment of Jørn Andersen is part of Myanmar football's preparation for upcoming international competitions. First, the Myanmar team will play a friendly against Vietnam on July 18, before focusing on the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup and other international duties.

Jørn Andersen is an experienced coach well-versed in Asian football. He led the North Korean national team from 2016 to 2018, becoming one of the few foreign coaches to work there.
The most remarkable achievement in Jørn Andersen's career was his tenure coaching the Hong Kong team from 2021 to 2024. He guided Hong Kong to qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, marking the team's first appearance in the continent's top tournament finals in over half a century.
Before moving to Asia, Jørn Andersen spent many years playing and coaching in Germany. He managed Mainz 05 in the 2008–2009 season, helping the club gain promotion to the Bundesliga. Thomas Tuchel later took over Mainz 05.
The Myanmar Football Federation highly regards Jørn Andersen's experience, discipline, and team-building skills. The coach, who holds Norwegian and German nationality, is expected to boost the Myanmar team's competitiveness in the near future.
If the contract is completed as scheduled, the friendly against Vietnam on July 18 could be one of Jørn Andersen's first matches as Myanmar's head coach.
